Could use a little help on Atec 9440a.

Have a problem with my 9440a, with it hookup to a dim bulb tester, I turn it on and the dim bulb glows bright but there is no lights, no relay click and seams as if the transformer is not turning on. I pretty much a amateur at repairs. Know how to solder and use a multi meter. Could this unit have gone into protection? Where to start to see if that is what it has done. And as always Thanks in advance.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Hopefully I will not get myself into trouble on this one, but the primary focus here is on speakers. If you would like some help on your power amp, I would suggest the Amp/Preamp forum on Audio Asylum. Knowledgeable and helpful people over there just like on this forum, but a different focus. Amp/Preamp Asylum

    regards -- Roger

Paul S Rumbaugh is/was a member here. I have no idea if he is still with us.

But, 9440A was his baby, he designed it. Years back he started a thread here encouraging folks to make contact with him to answer questions and offer guidance. The thread still comes up in a search, but when you click the link it's a dead end while other threads he posted in are still available.

Traffic is pretty low here the last couple years, maybe see if he is on Facebook.

Also, try reaching out to the board owner Todd W White, he may have contact info.

Re: Could use a little help on Atec 9440a.

Well here is the follow up on the 9440a. It had in deed gone into protection there were to two transistors out on the driver/output board, once those were replaced it came out of protection, but still had problems could not set bias, replaced a bad transistor at Q9. Got DC offset set but still having problems with setting bias, removed channel two board again and found two more transistors that were bad, replaced them and got bias to set. It is now singing away.

I do have a question about what CR19 does on the driver board, both boards in this unit does not have the CR19's and it still works.

Re: Could use a little help on Atec 9440a.

I think they are 15.0 volt zener diodes. They help keep the voltage stable at 15.0V IIRC.. Don't quote me on it. Without the schematic in front of me I'm not 100%.Maybe one of the other guys here may have a definitive answer for you.
